Spice Mart
Slacks Creek
Spice Mart, a large brightly lit supermarket in Slacks Creek, has one of the biggest ranges of international groceries to be found under one roof, including Asian, Indian, Pakistani, South American, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Pacific Islander, New Zealand and Middle Eastern.
Widely spaced well-organized shelves hold a staggering array of flours (black rice, maize, barley, semolina, stringhopper, millet and sorghum to name a few), rices (Sri Lankan, basmati, black Thai glutinous and hand-pound par-boiled), pulses and beans (mung, coco, faba, borlotti, pinot and lentils).
Here is also the place where oils ain't just oils, but 20 litre tubs of the cottonseed, red coconut, soya bean, mustard and sunflower varieties.
Pastes, sauces, chutneys and pickles, purees, vinegars and spice mixes come in all flavours and types as do noodles and dried and whole herbs and spices.
For a taste of Latin America there's El Salvador powder, horchata de morro and toasting corn and Mexican Chocolate drink mix, refried black beans and smoky chilli sauce.
There's even a smattering of Northern European in the mix with rosti mixes, sauerkraut and pickled vegetables.
Check the fridges for Bangladeshi ruhu hilsa (frozen fish), hyacinth beans, Indian gourd, yam, Asian buns, cassava and tofu.
