Best Bike Trails in Southern Queensland Country

From gentle runs along quiet country roads in the heart of wine country, and peaceful rides along rail trails flanked by bush, to the thrill of purpose-built mountain bike trails, you’ll find trails suitable for beginners through to expert riders in Southern Queensland Country:

MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

Toowoomba - More than 70km of cycle pathways make exploring Toowoomba a breeze for recreational cyclists, while mountain bikers can challenge themselves on escarpment or cross-country mountain bike trails. Popular trails range from the 1km Federation Park Vale View and 1.5km Picnic Point Parklands trail to the 5.5km trails through Redwood Park and the easy 7km circle tracks at Mount Peel Bushland Park, Drayton.

Mountain Bike Mecca Trails of the High Country Hamlets - Get back to nature and explore the local sights on two wheels on these scenic trails, located just a short drive from Toowoomba, with paths suitable for beginners through to more experienced riders. There are seven trails to choose from (with more in the works) taking in the sights and sounds of the region such as the 22.2km Dahl Road Crows Nest National Park Loop for beginner to intermediate level riders.

Mt Marlay - Offering five granite trails including two beginner runs - the 500 metre Rusty Trail and the 1.6km Green Granite Loop. The moderate grade is the .9km Grape Escape track and two difficult grade trails are the 1.4km Hammerhead and the .8km Tank Slapper to test the most experienced riders!

RAIL TRAILS

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Explore scenic countryside, farmlands, historic stations and towns of the South Burnett at a leisurely pace along Australia's longest rail trail, which follows the disused Brisbane Valley railway line for 161km from Blackbutt to just west of Ipswich.

Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail TrailRide the 89km Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail, which follows the old Kingaroy Branch Railway Line. Along the way, you'll enjoy an ever-changing panorama of undulating farmland and bushland as well as galleries, museums, wineries, cafes and country pubs.

COUNTRY ROAD TRAILS

The Granite Belt Bike Trail Stretching along 34km of quiet country roads from Stanthorpe south to Ballandean, this trail is perfect for cycle touring. You'll pass vineyards, apple and stone fruit orchards, granite boulders and an abundance of cellar doors and local food providores. Take your own bike, or contact Granite Belt Bicycle Tours to hire one, or to book a guided tour, complete with support vehicle to carry your gourmet purchases.

Southern Downs Road RidesTake in quiet back roads and rural landscapes between the charming towns of Warwick, Allora, Leyburn, Killarney, Swanfels and Yangan and break the journey with overnight stays along the way.
