Scrumptious Reads
Fortitude Valley
SCRUMPTIOUS READS HAS CLOSED ITS VALLEY STORE AND CAN NOW BE FOUND IN A CUTE COLONIAL STORE IN THE BACK STREETS OF RED HILL.
Brisbane's cutest little bookshop Scrumptious Reads may be devoted almost entirely to books about food, but this is anything but your average ho-hum world of cookbooks.
While the odd grinning face of a well–known chef can be spotted on the shelves, they take a back seat to the intriguing titles that you won't find anywhere else thanks to the owner's love affair with collecting everything about food.
Here you'll find recipes from NOMA the world's best restaurant, Amish cooking, a mediaeval cookbook and one devoted to the best Australian family recipes from 1868 to 1950 – think possum pie, beetroot beer and the original lamingtons.
Want to know how to cook wild game, bread, pies, chocolate, pickle vegetables or what to do with animal offcuts? Scrumptious Reads has it covered. And when it comes to health-related recipes they stock delicious diabetic, gluten-free and other dietary requirement cookbooks.
On the road less travelled look out for Mary Jane's Hash brownies and marijuana munchies, Odd Bits – How to cook the rest of the animal and one of their most popular titles – First, Peel the Otter: Grim and Ghastly Recipes for the Gruesome Gourmand.
And while there why not partake in some delicate tea-based treats from the tiny in-house Sinmei Tea Room.
