Miss Mexicana
Wynnum
Miss Mexicana is a stunning, split-level Mexican restaurant and bar in Wynnum offering authentic Mexican food and drinks.
Nestled on Bay Terrace, Miss Mexicana takes over the spaces formerly occupied by Mr Hibachi and The Fat Duck; with a more formal restaurant upstairs and a less formal Mexican-style cantina downstairs.
The upstairs dining room is a feast for the eyes, featuring vibrant, terracotta-coloured walls, with wicker lamp shades and greenery hanging from the high ceiling. The spacious dining area is filled with tables and chairs including a large round table for big groups, plus bench seating along one wall with colourful cushions scattered along it.
The iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo is featured throughout, on the walls and the cushions, with additional decor including Mexican folk art, sequined sombreros and cacti.
The mouth-watering menu boasts authentic Mexican fare. Start with Pina Asada (grilled pineapple, spiced nuts, romesco sauce and tequila syrup), Jalapenos Rellenos (panko-crumbed jalapeno chillies stuffed with chorizo, cream and mozzarella cheese) or traditional ceviche (fresh raw fish cured in citrus with avocado, tomato, onion and coriander).
Mains dishes include Mole de Pato (confit duck leg, mole sauce, rice and beans), Carne Asada (Mexican-style marinated rump steak served with kidney beans and pico de gallo), Carne Barbacoa (braised beef cheek in house made marinade served with beans and adobo sauce), Chicken Encilada, and Tazón Mixto (Mexican bowl of coriander rice, red beans, corn, pico de gallo, gaucamole, corn chips, and salsa).
In addition, there's an array of shared platters suitable for large groups, offering a range of traditional Mexican fare.
Diners can satisfy their sweet tooth with the delicious desserts on offer - Torta de Queso (baked cheesecake with dulce de leche) and Churros (Spanish doughnuts served with dipping sauce).
Downstairs, the ground level eatery and bar provides seating inside and out, with tables and chairs spilling out onto the footpath.
The bar menu boasts a tasty selection of Mexican street food, from Totopos (corn chips with house made guacamole) and Chilaquiles (corn chips with marinated chicken, tomatillo sauce and sour cream), to a variety of tacos - battered fish, marinated chicken, grilled beef brisket, slow-cooked pork, and grilled cauliflower.
Miss Mexicana is fully licenced with a curated wine list that consists of Australian and International wines, craft beer on tap, spirits, and cocktails including the classic Margarita, Spicy Margarita (infused with birds eye chilli), Coconut Margarita (based on 1800 Coconut Tequila, garnished with toasted coconut flakes), and Michelada - a classic Mexican cocktail with bite, concocted with Mexican lager, Clamato, lemon juice, Worcestershire, Tabasco, soy and salsa de tamarindo.
Nice to know - Miss Mexican is child-friendly with a dedicated menu for Niños including Pollo Asado (grilled chicken, rice and beans) and Totopos (corn chips topped with mozzarella, chicken or beef and sour cream).
