SHABBY TREASURES DOWN THE LANE HAS MOVED TO ARANA HILLS AND AWAITS A NEW REVIEW.

Shabby Treasures down the lane can be found tucked away down an artist’s hub laneway in Newmarket.

Visitors can find all sorts of trinkets, homewares, craft pieces and furniture in the store of treasures. There is everything from hand painted jugs to vintage jewelry pieces, candles to crystal glassware, refurbished coffee tables to ceramic door handles. Treasures are old and new, shabby and chic.

Owner, Jenny has filled two adjoining cottages with treasures, the cottages are aptly named the Lavender Barn and Rose Cottage. Not one wall is left untouched, full from floor-to-ceiling with fabulous trinkets and collectibles.

A large majority of the furniture pieces in the store are sourced from ‘Ed’s Shed’, Jenny’s husband’s working shed. Ed refurbishes the furniture for Shabby Treasures down the lane, although his untouched furniture pieces can also be purchased from his shed next door.

There is even a photography studio located at the back of Rose Cottage, where the talented Melanie Rose Photography snaps away and showcases her works.

Two delightful artists also reside within the laneway, working out of their open studio. Lisa Taylor King creates impressionist and abstract paintings which can be viewed by appointment in the Taylor King Art Gallery and Studio on Saturdays. Josie Lander, a sculpture artist also works out of the studio, creating all sorts of works from different artist’s materials.

Nice to know – Jenny holds Paint Workshops where attendees can bring their own furniture pieces to paint with Annie Sloan chalk paint. Her first one for the year will be held on 25 March. Jenny also opens ‘The Paint Bar’ Tuesday through to Friday, where attendees can book in for two-hour private painting sessions with morning tea included.

Lisa will be working collaboratively with Room to Play Productions to create a theatre show named Red Sky Morning by Tom Holloway. The theatre show will be playing in the Taylor King Art Gallery and Studio from March 30 – April 8.
