Homewood Cottages

Highfields

Homewood Cottages at Highfields provides unique accommodation in beautifully maintained grounds, with an unexpected surprise right next door.

The award winning property owned by John and Jan Harland offers two accommodation choices: Oak Cottage which is an Australian themed, one bedroom cottage and Forest Cottage which is an English-styled two bedroom cottage with disabled access.

Both cottages are private, comfortable and tastefully decorated. They are both surrounded by beautiful gardens and magnificent trees and are havens to be enjoyed by those looking for peace and tranquility. Well equipped with fireplaces, self contained kitchens, comfortable bedrooms, private living areas, outdoor areas, BBQs and covered car parking these cottages have everything you need for a relaxing country escape.

Linen and toiletries are supplied but it's the special little extras that make a difference here. A welcome note and chocolates are left on the kitchen table for guests and milk, a range of tea, coffee (both ground and bags), cheese and crackers can be found in the kitchen. Bird feeders in the gardens attract a variety of feathered visitors including king parrots, rosellas, rainbow lorikeets, galahs and cockatoos.

Wine and cheese platters, continental breakfast baskets and hearty breakfast baskets can be prearranged at an extra cost when booking. The hearty breakfast basket is great value at $30 and provides a very generous range of breakfast supplies that could be sufficient for two mornings. It includes items such as porridge, muesli, yoghurt, bread, butter, baked beans, fresh fruit, juice, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and chipolata sausages.

Whilst the property's gardens are stunning, there's an added bonus to staying at Homewood Cottages. Through a side gate and right next door, guests will find the Davison Arboretum. This amazing green space was donated to the local council and they now maintain it for the use of the public. Exotic trees from around the world grow here, many of them "autumn trees". Flowing on from the formal garden, there are several twists and turns in the Arboretum, which reveal many "rooms" and a labyrinth maze where peace and calm can be discovered.

This tree garden includes a wedding arch and a covered rotunda - making it a popular venue for garden weddings and social celebrations. The cottages are well placed to accommodate garden weddings, bridal parties and wedding guests.

As a guest at Homewood Cottages, it's a real bonus to be able to take a drink and a picnic rug just next door, wander through the arboretum and choose a spot to just sit and "be".

The Highfields area has much to offer locals and visitors alike. Amongst the top attractions in the area, John and Jan list these spots: country pubs (the Meringandan Pub and the Farmers Arms at Cabarlah), Cooby Dam, Peacehaven Botanic Gardens, the Village Green and Abbey Lane and Pioneer Park. A comprehensive list of local events and attractions can be found on the website.

In a nutshell - Whether Homewood Cottages are shrouded in mountain mist or drenched in sunshine, this is a beautiful destination to add to the must do list of weekend escapes.
