The Boom Boom Room

Brisbane Cbd

The Boom Boom Room is Brisbane’s most opulent basement bar, located in the underground chambers of the grand heritage-listed building that was home to the Queensland Government Savings Bank.

The moodily lit cavernous space, accessed by a rear staircase from a street foyer, features vaulted arches, curved velvet booths and a backlit cabinet of rare premium spirits which guests can purchase and drink over a three month period.

The piece de resistance though is the selection of private lounges hidden away inside the old bank’s vaults, which are accessed by the original heavy vault and cage doors.

Each room has its own unique décor, including one with a stunning circular crystal light table overhung by matching chandelier.

The striking main bar area sits underneath the arches and along the walls are the luxuriant velvet booths, some of which have the original coloured glass street traps above them.

Here patrons can site and enjoy a full menu of Japanese food and spectacular cocktails, whilst listening to jazz, blues and soul (as befits the age of the building).

Nice to know - The Boom Boom Room is the underground sibling of spectacular Chinese restaurant Donna Chang above.

Need to know - Entry is either via the Elizabeth St door - step through into the foyer and to the left is the historic staircase which takes you down to the bar. Otherwise, walk through Donna Chang and out the rear door to reach the same staircase on the right.
