Briefs: Close Encounters
Playhouse, QPAC
Prepare for a close encounter of the fabulous kind when Briefs: Close Encounters crash-lands at QPAC's Playhouse from 11-15 September.
The boys from Briefs Factory bring their signature style and strut back to Brisbane Festival in their third full-length show.
Briefs: Close Encounters features the Australian company’s cheeky blend of cabaret, burlesque, drag and comedy, delivered with its trademark punkish swagger.
The Briefs crew take the audience on an intergalactic journey punctuated by interstellar aerial feats and warp-speed strippers from outer space.
Brisbane Festival Artistic Director David Berthold said Briefs: Close Encounters enduring appeal lay in its ability to wow audiences with its incredible artistry while delivering sharp social commentary.
“Briefs is renowned for applying skill and humour to push the boundaries of artistry, masculinity and decency,” Mr Berthold said.
“Briefs: Close Encounters is a futuristic feast for the senses; a combination of soaring physical highs and grounding honesty.”
The production is set to an eclectic soundtrack of instantly recognisable pop hits and obscure instrumental and electronic tracks.
A wardrobe of dazzling costumes accentuating the sheer physicality of the performers sends Briefs: Close Encounters soaring to the heavens.
QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said he was delighted to present Briefs in the company’s debut at the Centre.
“Briefs is a home-grown global phenomenon and our Playhouse is the perfect venue for this raucous show; the audience can get up close and witness for themselves why this collective has thrilled crowds from Auckland to Edinburgh,” Mr Kotzas said.
