Dandelion & Driftwood
DANDELION & DRIFTWOOD CLOSED IN JUNE 2018 AND WILL BE REPLACED BY GINGER LILY.
There is something of a too good to be true feeling about this deliciously exquisite coffee and tea house and this perhaps stems from its low key location in a casual row of shops in a quiet Hendra neighbourhood.
From the passionate and meticulous barista in his bowtie and waistcoat, to the little place cards that accompany the best coffee or tea you'll find at this latitude, to the extraordinary attention to detail that permeates everything from the furniture to the sugar and coffee crystal cubes and dainty cakes, absolutely nothing has been left to chance or missed.
And it's not just the beverages that are five star, at the counter is a dainty assortment of delectable sweet treats to accompany – from old-fashioned biscuits such as monte carols and melting moments to mini gingham apple cakes, red velvet cupcakes, macarons, tarts and mini vintage cupcakes. For something more substantial and savoury, the signature would have to be the Reuben, from the sandwich-in-a-basket list.
And despite its reputation as Brisbane's coffee heaven, tea is very bit as perfect and in the afternoons between 1.30 and 3.30 the in-house specialty is 'low tea', a two tiered affair that bypasses the sandwiches and instead features a couple of scones with Paul Grainge raspberry jam and Miranda Valley double cream, mini flourlesss chocolate cake, tarts and macarons of the day.
On weekends the owner Penny and Peter's daughter wheels the lolly trolley through the shop, peddling nostalgic lollies by the jar such as milk bottles, bananas, freckles and musk sticks.
If there is a fault to pick it's that once you've had a coffee or cup of tea here you may find it hard to ever go elsewhere.
