Flat Out Like a Lizard
Metro Arts
Metro Arts final theatre offering for 2020 is Flat Out Like a Lizard, an intriguing, curious and funny evening of theatre that asks some timely questions about the value of storytelling and the arts.
Since swinging open the doors of their new West End location three months ago for Brisbane Festival 2020, Metro Arts has already presented a bold and diverse offering of cutting-edge cabaret, contemporary dance, spoken-word and stimulating visual arts.
Written by acclaimed local playwright Norman Price, Flat Out Like a Lizard weaves vast and vivid Australian stories. Co-Director Lisa O’Neill describes the work as a wild ride, featuring Price’s sharp wit and signature emotional intensity.
“The performance text captures Price’s own experience as a writer coming to terms with his own creative processes, and the interface between this and other stakeholders, including arts funding boards, publishing houses and audiences alike.
"The work revolves around the central character of Lazarus White, the writer and story-teller, sharing a collection of short stories to both the audience, and a ‘committee of experts’ also sharing the stage, making commentary and criticism at every given chance."
It’s a fitting theme for Metro Arts’ closing theatre show for the year, at a time when the arts has played such a critical role in filling the voids of escapism in 2020, and supporting local artists is more important than ever.
