Museum of Brisbane has a host of free and affordable, creative activities for kids this Autumn school holiday, from fashion workshops inspired by The Designers’ Guide: Easton Pearson Archive, to LEGO construction and tours of City Hall's iconic clock tower.
Colour Weave Collaboration - Apr 6-22 Free
Inspired by the designs and pattern making techniques in The Designers’ Guide: Easton Pearson Archive, this paper weaving project allows children of all ages to add their own colour weave to MoB's collaborative artwork installation.
Patterns and Prints Badge Making - Apr 8-11 $5 for two badges per child
Kids can combine drawing and collage techniques in this fun, affordable school holiday activity. Be inspired by Easton Pearson's patterns, prints and colourful designs and add confetti, sequins and more to embellish your badges.
Future Worlds - Apr 12 + 17 $15 per child
Children aged 5+ can become a a co-creator of this transcontinental workshop developed by Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan + Fruitjuice Factory Studio. Delve into their installation-based arts practice, currently on display in Brisbane Art Design 2019, and explore themes of transit and migration as you share in personal stories, histories, belongings and dreams of your fellow collaborators. Each participant will take home their own 3D sculpture.
Screen Printing - Apr 15 + 18 $15 per child
Print your own unique Easton Pearson style creation in this silk screen printing workshop, whether it be a t-shirt, tote bag or pillow case. This creative activity includes entry into The Designers' Guide: Easton Pearson Archive to provide inspiration. Attendees must bring their own cotton rich textile for printing.
Micro Architects with LEGO - Apr 16 $15 per child
Discover real-world design in MoB's Micro Histories exhibition and then create your own 3D structure in LEGO. Aspiring architects aged 5+ will receive a project brief from the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) before planning and sketching a design under their expert tuition.
MoB Makers: Moki Bands Until Apr 22 Free
Design your own fashion headband using playful templates created by Brisbane artist and Easton Pearson collaborator Stephen Mok in this fun activity for future fashion designers. Stephen hand-painted garments and accessories for Easton Pearson, created embroidery and beading patterns, designed window displays, shop fittings and runway shows. He also created the ‘Moki Room’ in The Designers’ Guide: Easton Pearson Archive.
Designers’ Guide + School Holiday Activity Apr 8-11
Grown-ups can have fun too this school holiday at MoB. Visit the Designer's Guide: Easton Pearson Archive exhibition while your little ones spend a crafty hour with the museum's team of arts educators in the Dome Lounge. This exciting fashion exhibition, featuring more than 200 garments from the internationally-acclaimed, Brisbane-based fashion house, closes on April 22.
Clock Tower Tour - Daily every 15 mins Free
Last but not least, a visit to Museum of Brisbane wouldn't be complete without a tour of Brisbane's iconic Clock Tower. Tours run daily taking visitors up City Hall's Clock Tower in a beautiful, old, hand-operated lift. In operation since the opening of City Hall in 1930, the clock tower is 87.47 metres high with an observation platform at 64 metres, which provides visitors with a bird's eye view of Brisbane. Tickets are free and allocated on a first come, first served basis, and can be obtained in person on the day at the Museum of Brisbane's reception counter on level 3.
