Polish Pierogi

Wellington Point

POLISH PIEROGI HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Polish Pierogi is a cute, little bayside eatery bringing traditional Polish cuisine from Warsaw to Wellington Point.

Located on the corner of Main Road and Christina Street, tables scatter on the footpath while inside a mural of Kanonia Square in the Old Town of Warsaw overlooks the cosy space.

The food is authentic Polish fare, prepared fresh on site including krokiety (croquettes filled with pork and beef or Polish sauerkraut, mushrooms and onion), golabki (cabbage rolls stuffed with pork and rice, served with a tangy tomato or creamy mushroom sauce) and bigos (hearty Polish sausage and sauerkraut stew).

The stand-outs on the menu though are handmade pierogi or Polish dumplings. These tasty little morsels come filled with ground pork and caramelised onion, cabbage and wild mushrooms, lentils and sautéed mushrooms, spinach and feta cheese or farmers' cheese and creamy mashed potatoes. If you can't decide or want to try them all, you can order a mixed plate. Pierogi can be boiled or pan-fried and come with your choice of onion fried in butter, fried onion and bacon or sour cream.

Drink wise, there's coffee, tea, sparkling water and soft drinks.

*Opening hours were correct at time of visiting in September 2017.
