Romeo and Juliet
La Boite
Shakespeare’s iconic love story, Romeo and Juliet, comes to life on stage at La Boite Theatre, playing from May 25 until June 15.
This modern take on Romeo and Juliet explores young love’s violent delights and their violent ends - two families at war, two teenagers in love, and a three-day affair that ends in six deaths.
Adapted by La Boite’s Artistic Director, Todd MacDonald, this re-imagining of Shakespeare’s tragedy about young star-crossed lovers and their feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets, promises to pack a punch.
“We’ve taken a classic play and looked at it through a contemporary lens and the result is a production that is physical, visceral, relevant and really accessible,” Mr MacDonald said.
"It’s about love – and what could be more universal and timeless than love?"
Romeo and Juliet continues La Boite’s ongoing collaboration with QUT Creative Industries. The stellar cast includes renowned Queensland actors Eugene Gilfedder, Colin Smith, Kerith Atkinson and Bridget Boyle, along with some of Brisbane’s best emerging talent including Darcy Gooda as Juliet and Jackson Bannister as her Romeo.
