Shishou Sake Bar and Eats is a funky pocket-sized Japanese bar that is Fortitude Valley's go-to for cocktails, sake and delectable Japanese eats.

Brisbane's first and only Japanese bar, Shishou Sake Bar & Eats is where Tokyo meets New York on a bustling Valley street.

The high-ceilinged narrow space features an open kitchen and bar on one side and stunning Japanese wall art on the other, with seating for diners and drinkers set around the bar.

Shishou is an ideal place to pop in from sundown for a cocktail or two, glass of wine, Japanese beer and a casual bite to eat - alone or with friends. On the bar menu there's a small selection of sake, shochu, Asahi beer or boutique wine, while Japanese flavoured cocktails include Tie Me Up (sake, cucumber juice, macha green tea ice-cream, ginger syrup

The food here is a must-try and some of the best to be found in the Valley. Served on beautiful crockery and designed to share, diners can chose from delicious entrees and share plates such as garlic soy Korean fried chicken bites, Japanese curry potato cheese croquettes, crispy chicken karaage and pan-fried gyoza.

Ramen is a stand-out here, with steaming noodle bowls of pork, chicken, beef, prawn or tofu in broth made onsite by the chef. There's also delicious Udon Noodle Soup (plain, tempura prawn, teriyaki chicken, ginger pork or bulgogi beef).

The Bao Buns at Shishou come highly recommended as some of the best to be found in Brisbane, with a choice of karaage chicken with Asian slaw and yuzu mayo, soft shell crab; crispy mushroom or ginger pork bacon bao with Asian slaw and goma sauce. The buns come with a side of lotus chips and soft drink.

For something more substantial there are Donburi Rice Bowls (karaage chicken, bulgogi beef, ginger pork or teriyaki chicken) and Umami burgers (Korean fried chicken or Wagyu beef cheese with shishou special sauce), with also come with a side of chips and soft drink.

If you're after something cold and light, Shishou serves delicious yakisoba noodle salads including beef, chicken, pork, vegetable or tofu. There are also sides such as edamame, miso soup and lotus chips.

Need to know - with COVID-19 regulations in place you can dine in from Thursday to Sunday nights from 5-10pm with a maximum 10 diners at a time and bookings are essential. you can even rent out the whole venue for you and your friends, for any occasion!
