Sichuan Bang Bang
Paddington
SICHUAN BANG BANG IN PADDINGTON HAS CLOSED IN NOVEMBER 2018.
Sichuan Bang Bang is the fantastic little Chinese diner found within the Paddington cottage it shares with its sibling opium den style Bang Bang Bar.
Take a step past the Asian screen in the front dining area to an oriental den where the furniture is Chinese, décor is black and red, and a dragon is suspended from the ceiling.
Here you will find diners tucking into share plates of fiery Sichuan cuisine, amongst the best Chinese food to be found anywhere in Brisbane.
The chilli-infused food is not for the faint-hearted but it is delicious and flavoursome and far removed from the Cantonese-meets west style Chinese fare served in most restaurants. And owner Renata, who lived in China for 5 years, knows her stuff.
Appetisers include delicacies like Warm Yunnan goats cheese salad with wokked capsicum, onion and chilli, Crispy Eggplant Chips with fried shallots, Tofu Skin Seafood spring rolls or Jellyfish salad with shredded cucumber and chilli.
More substantial Local Dishes include Big Chilli Chongqing Chicken with potato crispies, Shanghainese Pork Spare Ribs in vinegar sauce or Mapo Doufu – Sichuan Bean Curd with minced pork.
Must try are the house Specials - think Lamb Cutlets with cumin, chilli and spring onion; Salt, Pepper & Chilli Tiger Skin Eggs, Shanghai Style Braised Pork Belly and Salted Barramundi with sweet and sour chilli sauce.
For Vegetables and Sides there are Potato Fries with Shifu Salt and Pepper or Pak Choy with oyster or garlic sauce, while Noodles and Rice include Chicken Fried Rice with seasonal veges and certified free range organic egg or Hokkien Noodles.
And for Dessert diners can go Chinese with Deep Fried Ice-Cream and sauce or Italian with gelato by La Macelleria.
To accompany there’s complimentary Shanghai Gunpowder Tea (dine-in only) as well as Tsing Tao Chinese lager, or Mongolian red – Chateau Hansen cabernet Gernischt from the Wuhai Valley or a Chinese-flavoured cocktail (Bang Bang Bloody Mary, Jade Buddha or Chengdu Mule) otherwise choose from the extensive wine list from around the world, beers from Europe or Oz or Italian or standard soft drinks.
