Python Rock Track

Green Mountains

Python Rock Track is an easy grade Green Mountains walk of about 3.1km, featuring jaw-dropping views from its lookout.

The track can be found around 500m from the main parking area at O'Reilly's in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park, and is reached from there via the Centenary Track.

Python Rock

The walk is very straightforward and passes through rainforest until you get close the West Cliff and lookout, where the vegetation changes to be more open, with plenty of grass trees. The lookout itself is a wide platform with a guard rail and views of Moran Falls, Castle Craig and the Lost World. From there it is just a return walk back to the start of the track.

For those looking to walk further, there is an unmarked track the leads to Paddy’s Bluff. You can find this old track behind the bench that is somewhere in the middle of the Python Rock Walk. Being an unmarked track, less experienced walkers might want to skip this part of the walk. But it is fairly easy to follow and joins up with a dirt road and follows the cliff line until you get to a rocky outcrop after which there is no more obvious track. Then you just backtrack to return to the Python Rock Track.

Python Rock

In a nutshell - Overall this is a great little walk for people having a day trip to see the other attractions at O’Reilly’s and don’t want to do the longer hikes. Also, unlike the hikes on the Eastern side of Green Mountains, at Python Rock you get great lookout views which make it worth walking for both beginners and experienced walkers.
