Cardigan Bar

Sandgate

Updated: Apr 13, 2024

Cardigan Bar, a cool and quirky drinking establishment, adds an inner-city vibe to seaside Sandgate. Overlooking the town square, a stone's throw from the train station, this hole-in-the-wall watering hole is for locals and those who want to venture out of the city.

Situated in a service lane, between 3 Blind Mice Cafe and Hoffy Cycles, the cosy, intimate space features concrete flooring, black walls adorned with artwork, velvet lounges and knitted lampshades. The quirkiness flows through to the restroom where guests are greeted with a wall mural and hand-painted sign 'You Look Great' instead of a mirror. The piece de resistance though is the bar with its brightly coloured tiles and timber top.

With seating inside and out, patrons can enjoy a range of locally crafted bottled beer from Burleigh Brewing Company, Stone & Wood, Sunshine Coast Brewery and Koala Beer (gluten free); with Brisbane's own Bacchus Brewing Co's beer on tap. Spirits, ciders and wine are also available. The latter supplied by Goodwill Wines, a social enterprise donating 50% of their profits to charity.

A small bar menu includes cheeses, dips, mixed olives, semi-dried tomato bruschetta and pane croccante (Italian crispbread) or bring your own nibblies (casseroles accepted).
