Motorwagen is a stunning contemporary cafe, restaurant and bar found in Brisbane’s CBD, offering a refined dining experience for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Named after the world’s first petrol powered car, patented by Karl Benz, Motorwagen is a collaboration between restaurateur Sam Pask (Otto Brisbane, Urbane) and Mercedes-Benz.
This stylish city eatery features a striking, industrial chic fit-out – think exposed brick and concrete. Customers can dine al fresco on the terrace overlooking Adelaide Street or in the sophisticated dining room with burnt orange banquette seating.
The innovative menu, created by Head Chef Callum Rodgers, features modern classics with a creative twist. Open for breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday, Motorwagen is also open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights from 5.30pm until late.
Breakfast fare is simple and well executed - think avocado on rye; egg and bacon brioche bun; eggs scrambled, poached or fried with house-made sourdough and tomato relish; or Eggs Benzy (poached eggs, house sourdough and Hollandaise sauce). Boasting Brisbane’s first state-of-the Modbar espresso and pour-over system by La Marzocco, Motorwagen offers locally roasted Blackstar Coffee on pour. Otherwise, there are specialty lattes, organic loose leaf teas, classic fruit juices and kombucha.
For lunch, a selection of dinner dishes are available, as well as more casual bites like steak sandwiches on sourdough with Texan BBQ relish, aioli, horseradish, watercress and hand-cut chips; Motorwagen fish and chips; or Southern fried chicken served with classic coleslaw and hand-cut chips.
The exquisite Friday and Saturday night dinner menu includes delicious entrees such as pan-fried Queensland prawns with mango kaffir lime salsa; cured Coral Coast barramundi with lemon creme fraiche and pickled watermelon skin; or liver pate with sourdough croute and charred stone fruits.
Mouth-watering main dishes range from roasted quail with Sunshine Coast tomato salad, hazelnut cream and verjus pan sauce, to lamb backstrap with Swiss chard and house pinot jus, or Black Angus with cassava cake, Wagyu fat confit baby onions and snake beans.
Meanwhile, Motorwagen's must do dessert is their Dominican Republic chocolate fondant with hazelnut mascarpone gelato and cherries. Otherwise, try the creme brulee or savour some cheese with house preserves and wattles seed lavosh.
Motorwagen is fully-licensed with local craft beer on tap (Semi Pro, Stone & Wood and Newstead Brewing), classic cocktails and a carefully curated, concise wine list.
Good to know – A private dining room is available for functions with vintage inspired Mercedes-Benz murals painted by a local artist.
