Pineapple Express Wholefood Cafe

Hamilton

Pineapple Express Wholefood Café adds a touch of endless summer to Hamilton’s Portside Wharf, with a sunny beachside café vibe and delicious healthy food and drinks.

A classic surfboard stands sentry at the door while al fresco are a smattering of beach park-style picnic tables. Inside a giant black and white pic of an original VW Beetle by the sea sets the cool refreshing scene, along with bright yellow table accessories and planter boxes containing greenery and fresh pineapples.

Swing by for a wholesome all day breakfast* packed with both nutrients and flavour, such as the Green Breakfast Bowl – a mix of kale, broccolini, sunflower seeds, avocado and cherry bliss tomatoes, topped with organic poached egg; Protein Porridge or Pancakes; or the highly recommended Express Plate, comprising two dukkah-encrusted organic poached eggs, asparagus wrapped in haloumi and bacon, truss tomato, kale, labenah and house-made beetroot relish.

A lunch menu is on the way but meantime, diners can get their fill of wraps with fillings such as pulled pork, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and BBQ sauce or a delectable daily salad such as broccoli and slivered almonds, cranberry and cashew sauce.

Behind the counter is a tempting array of sweet stuff, the majority of which is gluten soy free – think raw and peanut butter slices, brownies, carrot cake and banana bread. And not to be missed are the heavenly Coco Whips, the perfect soft serve dessert in a cup, with flavours of apple crumble, Reece’s peanut butter, Tim Tam and Death by Chocolate.

The drinks on offer at Pineapple Express are as much a drawcard as the food – smoothies come in flavours such as Mixed Berry, Pina Colada, Peanut Butter and Chocolate and the popular King Kong (banana, cinnamon, chia seeds, coconut coyo ice-cream and coconut water with a touch of manuka honey), while the signature Green and Clean (banana, pineapple, cucumber, mint, kale, spinach coconut water and a touch of lime) evokes the beach in a jar.

Juices meantime, include Ginger Ninja, Mean & Green, Hipsters Fix (kale, apple, carrot and beetroot) or MYO (make your own) and there’s also a section of health-giving Acai Bowls including Breakfast Bowl, Acai Nutter, Gym Junkie and Pineapple Express Green Bowl. Otherwise on the hot drink front, coffee at Pineapple Espress is from Campos and teas are by Origin.

Need to know – The kitchen closes at 2pm daily, and after that punters can partake in a Coco Whip or any of the luscious drinks. Nice to know – Smoothies and juices also come in kids sizes.
