Indian Mehfil

Ipswich

Updated: Feb 02, 2022

Indian Mehfil is one of Ipswich’s longest standing and most popular restaurants – for good reason.

Housed in a grand heritage-listed 19th century building on the edge of the Top of Town historic precinct, Indian Mehfil serves up top notch authentic Indian dishes in an ornate old world high-ceilinged dining room.

The mixed platter (a delectable assort of vegetarian and meat dishes such as samosa, pakora, murg malai tikka and cutlets) makes a great starter as does the tandoori chicken tikka or drumsticks.

For mains it’s hard to go past the Butter Chicken (one of the best around) and Goat Curry (tender and flavoursome), while a choice of popular curries include Rogan Josh, Masala, Korma, Madras or Vindaloo.

There’s also a decent range of vegetarian/vegan dishes such as Palak or Karahi Paneer, Sabaz Meloni (fresh seasonal vegetables in onion, tomato and spinach gravy with cream), with vegan dishes including Channa Masala (chick peas with spicy tomato and onion sauce) and Baingan Bahar (eggplant and potato in spicy tomato and onion sauce).

Rice dishes on offer range from plain, saffron, coconut or lemon-flavoured to lamb, chicken, prawn or vegetable biryani and to accompany, there’s a fine selection of tandoori breads (garlic, cheese, lamb, chili and cheese, potato or dried fruit-stuffed naan) and classic extras like raita, tamarind or mint sauce, mango chutney and papadums.
