Tartufo Ristorante Wine Bar

Fortitude Valley

Updated: Sep 21, 2024

Upscale Italian restaurant Tartufo is like a grand European brasserie that has been beamed into the palm tree lined streets of the Emporium, Fortitude Valley.

Leave the balmy Queensland night outside and step into a cavernous retro world of smoky mirrors, wood panelling and red leather booths, where a swarm of formally attired waiters buzz around the mosaic tiled floors.

And as is the European way punters drop by at all hours for a drink at the bar and some spuntini (bar snacks) or a late night supper.

The menu is every bit as stunning as the setting, with dishes personally compiled by owner and chef Tony, who hails from Naples. While southern Italian dishes feature, he also draws from other regions and is meticulous in sourcing the freshest of Queensland produce.

Start with a Campari and appetiser at the splendid back lit bar before partaking in delectable dishes at the table – stand outs include the melt in the mouth beef carpaccio and hand made parpadelle with goat ragu for primi (entrée) and any of the veal dishes or slow cooked lamb rack for secondi (main). The accompanying wine list is extensive and includes a decent well-priced range of Italian varietals.

Leave room for the splendid desserts such as chocolate fondant, pannacotta or the signature traditional Sfogliatella Napoletana, a flaky pastry filled with ricotta and cedro.
