Reef Seafood & Sushi

Newstead

For quality affordable seafood dining, it doesn’t get much better that Reef Seafood and Sushi at Newstead’s Gasworks Plaza. For this casual al fresco eatery, which incorporates a mini fresh seafood mart, dedicated sushi bar and an East meets West foodie’s menu, is family friendly, super value and comes with its own dedicated Japanese chef.

Here you can pop in for anything from a sashimi boat and plum sake to a platter of fish and chips with a crisp white wine, pick up a couple of fresh sushi rolls and a seaweed salad to take away or some fresh King salmon or Mooloolaba prawns to cook at home.

In a stroke of luck for Brisbane residents, owner Greg Kay brought this second Reef Seafood and Sushi to the Gasworks from his Ferry Road Brickworks restaurantwhere he has been plying happy Gold Coast diners with top notch seafood from his wildly popular outlet of the same name for some time now.

Alongside the delicious fish and chips (which come in mega portions either Stone and Wood beer battered or Panko bread crumbed) and sumptuous Seafood Platters, diners can chose from a range of gourmet small plates like miso scallops, Temoura oysters, White Wine or Chilli Mussels, Garlic Moreton Bay Bugs and Crab Croquettes.

As much of a standout on the menu is the sushi side of things, all prepared fresh daily with the highest quality ingredients by renowned chef Shigeki, who hails from Totori, Japan. Try the sashimi boat, Moreton Bay sushi rolls or anything – it doesn’t get much better or fresher that what’s on offer here.

If cooking at home this is also the place to pick up some top notch seafood – sashimi grade tuna, Mooloolaba king prawns, Moreton Bay bugs, king salmon, Alaskan crab, cured ocean trout, baby snapper, Tassie oysters and whatever else is best and freshest on the day.

Need to know: Reef Sushi and Co is fully licensed, with a great selection of varietal wines, a handful of boutique beers (as well as Asahi), spirits and sakes. Although all ordering is done at the counter, in floor entertainment is provided with a virtual ocean projected on the floor, complete with skimming fish and darting sharks - a source of great intrigue for the young and the restless, who’ll want to be there all night. If they tire of that, there’s always the lawn under the gasworks ring which is on hand to cement this venue as a top family dining destination.

*Undercover parking is free with a validated ticket. Ask for the ticket to be validated by the restaurant at time of payment.
