River Quay Fish
South Bank
River Quay Fish is a casual yet top notch seafood restaurant and bar overlooking the river and CBD skyline in prime position at South Bank’s splendid River Quay.
The breezy open-sided restaurant is a fine place to feast on melt-in-the-mouth seafood dishes, enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail, take away some fish’n’chips or start the weekend day with a gourmet breakfast.
Seafood fans will be in heaven with a creative menu that showcases the best of Australian seafood but won’t break the bank.
To start there’s Oysters (natural, tempura or gazpacho granita), Charred Prawn Cocktail, Whiting Tacos and the highly recommended Crab Gazpacho Soup or Twice Cooked Octopus (char-grilled with lemon grass, prawns, chilli, smoked romesco and butter).
Mains include Tempura Flathead, Crispy Skin Barramundi, Beer Battered Fish of the Day or Scallop Lemon Thyme Risotto and a Fish Burger.
Whilst the seafood is the star on River Quay Fish’s menu (must tries are the Butter Poached Ocean Trout and the Grilled Moreton Bay Bugs with lemon herb butter and green papaya salad to share), there’s also the option of Pork Cheek Croquettes, a Charcuterie Board to share, Popcorn Chicken Burger or Char Grill Steaks (Dry Aged Sirloin or Rib Fillet on the Bone) served with onion puree, duck fat potatoes, horseradish cream and red wine jus.
Salads, which are ideal to share between 2 diners ordering Mains, are equally delicious – think Poached Rhubarb, Goats Cheese, Walnuts and Beetroot Leaf Salad – otherwise Sides include Dutch Cream Mash, House Made Onion Rings and Asian Green Veges with Choy.
And be sure to save room for one of the delectable desserts – hard to go past is the Strawberry Eton Mess, the perfect ending to a seafood meal.
River Quay Fish offers an excellent wine list (a mix of Oz and international ) designed to complement the menu, as craft beers and cider, carafes of Pimms Punch or Sangria, ‘Summer Fizzles’ including Aperol Spritz and Pavan Fizz and refreshing cocktails such as Watermelon Basil Julep, Blood Orange Cosmo and Vanilla Passionfruit Mojito.
Good to know – On weekends River Quay Fish opens for breakfast from 8am-11am with a great range of dishes (including 3 for kids) and a point of difference that all bacon served here is Angus Beef bacon, not pork.
Need to know – There is also a small Takeaway menu, including Oysters, Fish Burger, Soft Shell Crab Baguette and Fish of the Day and Chips as well as soft drinks.
