Medé Modern Mediterranean is a slick, contemporary Mediterranean-inspired restaurant perched on a corner of Oxford St, Bulimba, a short stroll from the roundabout.
A sibling for Melrose Restaurant & Rooftop Bar, Medé offers a modern Mediterranean dining experience, featuring classic dishes with a twist.
Head Chef Sam Richards (ex Cloudland and Manly Boathouse) has crafted a mouthwatering menu that blends modern sophistication with rich culinary traditions, including flavours from all regions of the Mediterranean.
The decor at Medé features a gorgeous modern Mediterranean aesthetic, with stone and brick walls, an arched white back lit bar, olive green chairs and booths and, on the terrace white timber & cane outdoor dining settings featuring padded green benches, gold table lamps and olive trees in pots.
On the menu are a selection of fresh, locally-sourced dishes will transport your taste buds to the Mediterranean coast, starting with Snacks & Smalls such as natural oysters with Moroccan lemon mignonette or baked oysters with chorizo butter and espelette vinegar; crudite (tzatziki, dill oil, seasonal baby vegetables, lemon salt); courgette flowers (ricotta, herbs & salsa verde) and Greek fried chicken slider (with Romaine lettuce, heirloom tomato, tzatziki & lemon pepper).
Other delicious morsels to start with include whipped hummus, house taramasalata or buffalo ricotta with BBQ Turkish bread; local olives, saganaki with pickled figs and baguette, or charcuterie plate (locally handmade cured meats served with warm baguette & pickles).
Dishes 'From the Sea' include the must-try Crudo - Mooloolaba yellow fin tuna, local tomatoes, Moroccan lemon creme fraiche & candied olives; Mooloolaba king prawns with Tunisian spiced cocktail sauce, fresh lemon, romaine lettuce; local squid with lemon mayo, Aleppo pepper, sea salt & broadleaf rocket; and BBQ Qld tiger prawns with harissa, radish & local finger lime.
Delicious dishes 'From the Paddock' include BBQ chicken with toum, chicken jus gras & fattoush; filo pie with Warrigal greens, macadamia cheese, salsa verde & broadleaf rocket; and 300g grass fed Flat Iron MD3+ with gremolata, ajvar & jus.
To share there's BBQ line caught whole corat trout, Warilba organic lamb shoulder with jus gras and tzatziki (both highly recommended) or Market Cut of the Day, along with side dishes of Greek potatoes (twice-cooked, with gremolata and lemon), Mediterranean greens with tarator & lemon oil; charred hispi cabbage or Medé house salad (Macedonian peppers, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, feta, fresh herbs & lemon dressing).
Desserts are every bit as scrumptious, with offerings like pannacotta with Aleppo pepper strawberries & burnt orange cardamom syrup; Persian date pudding (must-try!) with Advieh, Turkish delight, spiced caramel & pistachio; and passion frut tart (Hunted + Gathered white chocolate crème, olive oil gelato & lemon balm). There's also a cheese plate - 1, 2 or 3 cheeses served with lavosh, Iranian pickled figs, grapes & quince.
These reimagined classic dishes are ideally combined with wines from around the world and a luscious cocktail or two. Choose from signatures like Pear & Elderflower Collins, Banana Rum Old Fashioned, Spiced Margarita or Stone Fruit Iced Tea; or classics like Negroni, Tommy's Margarita, Mojito, Espresso Martini or Aperol Spritz.
On the wine list are mostly Australian wines with some drops from New Zealand and a smattering of wines from France and Italy, while beers include a handful of craft beers (including local Revel Brewing Co) on tap as well as Corona, Italian and Greek beers by the bottle.
Good to know - There's a small kids menu for ages 10 yrs and under, of BBQ chicken, grilled fish or Black Onyx steak, served with salad and fries. Pooches on leash are allowed at the outside tables.
