Medley Restaurant occupies prime position on one of the most beautiful and historic bends of the Brisbane river, at Kangaroo Point.
The stunning open-plan boathouse-style restaurant, with tiered al fresco dining decks (cosily heated during the cooler months) leading down to the riverfront promenade, sits next door to the gorgeous heritage-listed Yungaba Immigration centre, which has been converted into multi-million dollar apartments with magnificent sweeping lawns and landscaped gardens.
Open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 5.30pm, Medley Restaurant is perfect for dining all year round, and also specialises in intimate parties of 13-25 guests, from 2-course sit-down menus through to relaxing long-table dining. Medley is also an impressive venue to host your next private boutique cocktail function (maximum 50 guests) with mingle-friendly noodle box-style dining, premium beverage packages and high tea offerings, all perfectly back-dropped by the river at night.
Due to its occupying this hidden residential pocket on the river and accessed via a car park at the end of a cul-de-sac (or via the riverfront walk from under the Story Bridge - look for the illuminated poinciana tree), Medley Restaurant is also a bit of a local secret.
In the evenings, Medley comes into its own as possibly Brisbane’s most enchanting and exclusive dining destination, the perfect spot to sit on a balmy summer evening enjoying the cool river breezes as the lights come on atop the New Farm clifftops on the other side of the river and, to one side are glimpses of a lit-up Story Bridge. And, for a post-dinner stroll along the promenade along the waterfront.
When it comes to food, the compact seasonal dinner menu here is about well-executed delicious dishes designed to share. Small plates include their signature duck pate, Salade de Polvo (Portuguese style octopus with lemon garlic marinade) and Sichuan chicken.
For Mains there are delicious dishes such as Cappelletti (house-made pumpkin, blue cheese and walnut pasta), Lamb Eye of Loin (lamb backstrap, Provence style vegetables, Darwin plum powder with rosemary & port sauce) or Cobia (Katafi string pastry wrapped sole with smoked eggplant, diced tomato and spiced labneh).
And for afters diners can choose from Nutella & Frangelico Affogato, Matcha Tea Cake, Fig Tart or MangoCoconut Mousse.
Medley is fully licensed*, offering an eclectic wine list that includes Australian, Argentinian, NZ, Italian and French wines, while Sparkling wine options include drops from Tasmania and SA as well as Italian Prosecco and Champagne Palmer Brut from France.
Beer drinkers can enjoy craft beers Stone and Wood as well as James Squire, Coopers and Peroni (Italy), Corona, Hoegaarden (Belgium), Asahi (Japan) and ciders from Sidewood in the Adelaide Hills (try their award-winning pear cider). In addition there’s a range of spirits (standard and premium), liqueurs and cocktails.
Need to know – There is limited free off-street parking behind the restaurant, otherwise there’s some parking in the cul-de-sac and plenty of on-street parking down under the Story Bridge in the evenings (walk along the riverfront past the historic Yungaba development to the restaurant). Medley is a fantastic function venue too, with the flexibility to accommodate small to large groups.
Nice to know – Medley Restaurant has disabled access, with a parking space and ramp leading down to the restaurant and on-site disabled restroom. They are also dog-friendly, with owners welcome to hitch their dogs on the deck outside.
