Evra is a stylish and convivial farm-to-table restaurant and bar in Newstead, attached to Evra Marketplace, where home grown ingredients and an intuitive cooking style combine to create the wow factor.

The restaurant’s gorgeous interior has a welcoming homey vibe with an open kitchen at the heart of the space. Limestone walls, a stone bar, timber shelves, and a greenhouse dining space add a splash of sophistication, whilst retaining an air of relaxed cosiness. There is also a line-up of white clothed tables outside, perfect for date night or people watching.

Executive chef, Kelvin Andrews, takes a farm-inspired approach, guided by the seaons and making the ingredients the star of the show to create Evra’s evolving seasonal menu. At the core is the restaurant’s rooftop garden, with a bounty of home-grown freshly picked produce giving the menu its fresh stunning flavours.

The menu is a seamless combination of modern Australian cuisine with classical Italian influences. For starters. must try is the chef’s special bread recipe baked daily in collaboration with Baker D. Chirico right next door; and melt-in-the-mouth Crudo of the Sea (yellowfin tuna, salmon, ‘Paspaley’ pearl meat & coral trout with creme fraiche, Yarra Valley caviar).

Also recommended is the Vitello Tonnato (thinly sliced milkfed veal with house-blended tuna sauce and capers) or the Farm Plate (organic rooftop garden vegetables, white bean hummus, Buffalo mozzarella & avocado) while for entrees, try the South Australian Marron Risotto; Albohros Island Scallop “Rockefeller” (cider & champagne stock, parsley, lemon juice & panko breadcrumbs); or Hand Rolled Cannoli (stuffed with seasonal sweet farm corn, sage puree, served with blanc de blancs beurre blanc).

For mains, recommended are the succulent Wombeyan Caves Bresse ChickenBresse chicken (pasture-raised & crown-roasted, served with chestnut mushrooms & vin jaune); and BlueReef Coral Trout Fillet (grilled, served with southern squid cacciatore or caper and dill beurre blanc); whilst steak lovers can choose from Grassfed, Dry-Aged, Friesian Sirloin; Grassfed Chateaubriand; Hereford Sirloin on the Bone; or Grassfed, Dry-Aged Petite Fillet, all sourced from CopperTree Farms; as well as Blackmore Wagyu.

Evra also has two Signature Dishes, both of which are outstanding: Mud Crab Lasagna with zucchini flower; and Wombeyan Caves, Aylsebry Duck with fermented plum and organic soy glaze. All dishes can be complemented with sides from the roof garden and market, such as Evra organic mixed leaf salad; steamed asparagus & broccolini; organic rooftop vegetables; and divine creamy mash potato with grass-fed butter.

To finish on a sweet note, the desserts are equally delectable, with a choice of Blood Orange Mille Feuille; Chocolate Tart with vanilla ice-cream; or Creme Caramel with creme apera; each with the option to be perfectly paired with a suggested dessert wine.

Complementing the restaurant is Evra Bar, open for walk-ins (with the full restaurant menu available), serving up specially crafted cocktails and a full spectrum of classic wines from around the world in a casual setting. including one page devoted to champagne by the glass or bottle.

And from the cocktail menu, signatures include the the Americano Perfecto (Campari, vermouth rosso, birra & grapefruit); Day Spa (gin, honeyed lemon, cucumber and thyme); and Higher BPM (reposado tequila, Cointreau, espresso & chocolate bitters).
