Highgate Hill is home to some of Brisbane's landmark heritage buildings, including Torbreck, the first residential high-rise to be built in Brisbane (prospective buyers were flown in a helicopter over the site to get a glimpse of what their view would be like) and Toonarbin, which was built in the 1860s by early settler Captain O'Reilly. At the annual Brisbane Open House sometimes it is possible to visit these and other famous Highgate Hill residences.
