Wet'n'wild Water World

The original water park Wet'n'Wild is still the biggest in the south east and makes for a spectacular day out, as evidenced by the crowds that pour in, come rain or shine.

For thrill seekers this park has the ultimate rides, from the life-changing Aqua Loop - which involves being dropped into a vertical tube from great height by way of a ‘floor’ that gives way and hoping to hell you are successfully jettisoned via a giant loop out the other side  – to the Surf Rider and heart-stopping Kamikaze (another vertical drop, this time in an arm chair).

Those who prefer their adrenaline shots in small doses will find plenty of the usual rafting and sliding in a spaghetti tangle of tubes and those whose idea of water fun is to float endlessly down a gentle flowing stream in an inflatable tyre with a crowd of like-minded others will find it hard to leave Calypso Beach.

For younger children there are hours of fun to be had in Buccaneer Bay offloading water pistols and cannons at each other and their hapless parents.

Need to know: Arrivals after 2 pm in winter and 3pm in summer can pay roughly half price.
