The German Club
East Brisbane
For a rollicking good night in an old-fashioned community setting, the German Club, one of Brisbane’s best longtime institutions, is the place to go.
Zum Kaiser, the official restaurant of the Brisbane German Club, dishes up authentic hearty fare in a retro beer hall setting with lederhosen-clad entertainment.
Mains include traditional German fare like Frikadellan (pork and beef rissoles), Leberkase (meatloaf), and Sauerbraten (beef pot roast marinated in red wine), as well as schnitzels, sausages, and slow-roasted, crispy pork knuckles. Almost everything comes with mashed or fried potato and sauerkraut.

Zum Kaiser is kid friendly offering children's meals of chicken schnitzel, battered fish or frankfurter sausage served with hot chips.
The long banquet style tables with loads of space around them, make it a great place for families and groups and once the live music starts (everything from German classics to Lady Gaga), the dance floor becomes a major child magnet.
As kitsch as it all sounds, it doesn’t stop the 20 something hipsters from piling in, and it's this - a real cross-section of the community enjoying themselves under one roof - that it is the secret of the club’s charm.
