Esk Country Markets

Esk

Updated: Aug 03, 2021

Held every Saturday morning from 7am until 12noon, the Esk Country Markets are well worth checking out if you’re taking a weekend day trip through the Brisbane Valley.

Esk Country Markets, Queensland

Located approximately 1.5 hours north-west of Brisbane, the picturesque drive to the small (population of only 1,700-ish) township of Esk, in the Somerset region, shows off the Queensland landscape beautifully, with the road skirting around farmland and Lake Wivenhoe.

Oozing with country hospitality, charm and conversation, these laid-back country markets offer something for everyone, and whilst there are a number of stalwarts who attend religiously every week, you’ll also discover and meet new and diverse stallholders each visit.

If it’s more than a day trip and you’re staying nearby and shopping for staples, you’ll be able to buy locally-grown fruit and vegies, honey from nearby hives, and fresh-from-the-oven baked goods – perfect to have with a coffee from the local roaster onsite or to take back to your accommodation.

If you’re a keen treasure collector, there are usually a number of stalls that have a beautiful range of antique and vintage items, everything from crockery and vases to children’s toys and even furniture.

Those with green thumbs will be kept happy with plants stalls, manned by local nurseries and avid gardening town folk alike, who have everything from seasonal seedlings to mature plants.

When the hunger strikes, you’ll find it hard to go past the local charity’s sausage sizzle, especially as the aroma seems to temptingly follow you wherever you go.

The mix of stalls is perfect for a stroll around – essential oils, candle makers, handmade clothes for adults along with kids’ clothes, beautiful artisan jewellery, handcrafted timber work and so much more.

After the markets, it’s easy to explore the township on foot, so make sure you wear comfy walking shoes, bring your reusable shopping bags, and your sense of adventure.

The closest - just across the grass beyond the kids' playground - is the Historic Esk Railway Station.

Of special mention is Sandra’s Garden, tucked away behind one of the local cafes and an absolute delight to discover. Not  so much a spot to shop, but definitely a must-visit when you're in Esk.

Nice to know – Pipeliner Park, where the markets are held, has toilet facilities and a kids’ playground.

If you’re looking to visit the region overnight or longer, head to Pure Glamping at Wivenhoe Dam, perfect for couples, groups and family glamping.
