Greylands

Indooroopilly

One of Brisbane’s grand and earliest villas built in Indooroopilly, Greylands was constructed in 1876 by prominent lawyer Graham Lloyd Hart (founder of law firm Flower and Hart – his partner owned the prominent residence Kirkston in Windsor) who lived there until his death in 1897 and today it remains a stately home on formal grounds.

Its subsequent owner David Lahey lived there between 1910-1912 and during this time his daughter, acclaimed artist and art advocate Vida Lahey painted the classic ‘Monday Morning 1912’ laundry scene at the house. Today the painting is part of the Queensland Art Gallery’s permanent collection on display.
