A series of intact early 20th century buildings in a row, in what was once a light industry precinct just off the government precinct of George St, comprising: the former St Luke’s Anglican church (circa 1905) which for the past thirty years has been serving pancakes twenty-four hours a day within its walls and has a dimly lit bar downstairs in what once was a meeting room for newspaper boys, the John Reid and Nephews circa 1915 furnisher’s warehouse, the George Weston & Sons building, a single storey brick warehouse that was home to a copper alloy supplier that is still operational today in another location and the most decorative and curiously named John Mills Himself (circa 1919) building that is now home to Archives Fine Books. John Mills was a printer and stationer who was originally in partnership with a chap called Green over in Adelaide St and after they parted ways and he became a sole trader he built here and subsequently let out parts of his building to watchmakers, lantern and mapmakers, engravers, clothing manufacturers, the Press Etching Company and Gresham Press.
