Carpenter Hall House

Wilston

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

This extraordinary four-storey tower was designed by architect Russell Hall for his sister in 1985 and subsequently became his most widely recognised work. A large coloured prism sits on the roof and floods the internal space with iridescent light and the outside walls, which these days are hidden from view behind trees are defined by a series of steep-angled steel eaves.

Russell’s other prominent Brisbane work is the boldly coloured Varitimos Building streetscape at the intersection of Boundary Rd and Vulture St in West End and he is also behind the design of the Ripple Iron products including the stubbie holder.
