The New Black

Fortitude Valley

Updated: Apr 16, 2025

The New Black is The Black Lab Coffee Co's Brisbane flagship store, serving quality brews and delicious tucker on the corner of Bakery Lane in Fortitude Valley.

The quirky café is decorated with bright cushions, hanging planters and some epic wall art. There’s booth seating, as well as small bar tables.

The all-day menu is laden with unique dishes such as breakfast ramen and coconut sago. You can also build your own breakfast, enabling you to create your own bespoke dish.

The chia pudding is a delicious, healthy choice for breakfast on the go.

There’s also an abundance of freshly baked treats and sandwiches to-go in the cabinet.

Coffee can be found in all shapes and sizes; French press, syphon, cold drop, V60, nitro, and even unique brews such as matcha and turmeric. The New Black will also be serving alcoholic beverages for sneaky after-work drinks, along with a selection of evening tapas.

Need to know – There are nearby public transport hubs.

Good to know – Cakes & Shit is their sister-business, operating next door to The New Black.
