MILTON RUM DISTILLERY HAS RELOCATED FROM CASTLEMAINE ST TO ALBION.
The Milton Rum Distillery is Milton’s best kept secret – based on a historic rum distillery* with a gorgeous vintage Malecon Cuban cocktail bar, located opposite Suncorp Stadium.
Look for the black velvet curtains in the window and the antique lamp above the heavy wooden door and you’ve found this absolute hidden treasure, which would have to be one of Brisbane’s best bars.
Step inside to a dimlit world of pre-Castro Cuba, with rustic exposed brick walls, a line-up of cosy lamplit leather booths behind a lace iron balustrade on one side and a long ceramic tiled bar on the other.
In the middle of the saloon-like space there’s a scattering of antique couches, armchairs and tables and, tucked away in a streetside corner, the tiny rum distillery.
Cocktails and craft rum are the house specialty here at The Malecon Bar, with house specialty cocktails including Buena Vista Fizz, Cohiba Smash (house rum mix with citrus, orgeat and spice) and the must try Habana Vista Bold Up (white rum, aperol, lemon, passionfruit and pineapple).
There’s also a menu of House Classics (with a Malecon twist), including Malecon Daiquiri, Pina Colada, Treacle and Zombie.
Wine drinkers can choose from a small carefully curated list of Australian and South American wines, while beer and cider on tap includes Mismatch Pale, Black Hops Lager and Hills Apple and Ginger Cider. Meanwhile by the bottle there’s the likes of Moo Brew, Green Beacon Windjammer, Pacer and Hills Apple Cider.
Need to know – The Malecon Bar doesn’t serve food, however patrons are welcome to bring their own in, including Uber Eats.
Good to know – On Thursday evenings there’s a live Cuban jazz band.
*The Milton Rum Distillery is inspired by the original Milton Rum Distillery that in the late 1800's was located nearby until it was flooded in the massive 1890's flood and never re-opened.
