Newstead Brewing Co

Newstead

Updated: Mar 06, 2023

NEWSTEAD BREWING CO HAS CLOSED AS OF MARCH 5, 2023.

Newstead Brewing Co has turned the art of painting into the art of brewing since taking over the old Doggett St Gallery down by the old gasometer in Newstead.

The one-time warehouse/factory has been hollowed out and stripped back to its industrial shell, making a giant high-ceilinged space within which to grab a stool, make like you’re at the Cattleman’s bar at the Ekka and get stuck into the best list of beers to be found anywhere in Brisbane.

On one side of a glass fence, the giant brewing vats and equipment, the source of the in-house beers, can be viewed (as can a large TV screen perfect for sporting events). Here’s the place to enjoy draught beer on tap straight from the source: 4 guest beers mix it with The Red Garter, 21 Feet 7 inches and 3 Quarter Time Session ale. Or try the Newstead tasting paddle of 4 150ml tasting glasses.

The rest of the extensive curated ‘Other-People’s Beer List is a beer-lover’s dream, derived from Oz, Sweden, NZ, Norway, Germany and the US, with rare sightings like Rogue Donut Choc, Peanut and Bananas, Croucher American Black Ale, Moo Brew Dark Ale and Bridge Road Brewers India Saison.

Wine and champagne drinkers are not forgotten with French champagne and a small list of varietals along with beer, ginger beer, rum, cider and gin based cocktails.

And Newstead Brewing Co also boasts a hearty gastro food menu ranging from nibbles like chilli peanuts to fully-fledged meals like steak and bearnaise with warm potato salad and lamb pie with eggplant. Otherwise, chow down on pizzas, light meals like corned beef sangas or duck liver pate with sourdough or the Brewmaster lunch platter – a deli arrangement that comes in small or large. There’s even the option of a coffee and chocolate tart, making it a great any-time drop-in.
