GRANDMA'S KIWI KITCHEN IN SPRINGWOOD HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Popular with ex-pats and Aussies alike, Grandma’s Kiwi Kitchen is a little slice of NZ smack-dab in Springwood.

From weekend markets to a permanent home in Springwood’s business district, Grandma’s serves kiwi cuisine alongside excellent Elixir coffee, T2 teas, organic, fairtrade soft drinks - Karma cola, Lemmy lemonade and Gingerella, fresh juices, milkshakes and smoothies including the Green Meanie with kale, cucumber, cashews, coconut water, banana, mint, apple and lemon.

The all-day menu – offering a “taste of back home” - includes whitebait fritters, paua puffs (creamed paua in pastry shells) and fush and chups (battered or oven-baked Hoki fish fillet and chunky fries) with housemade tartare or lime aioli; while the most popular dishes are the hangi stack with layers of potato, chicken, pork, pumpkin, kumara, watercress and stuffing crust, Aunties’s green lipped mussels in garlic and white wine sauce and traditional Maori boil up: bacon bones, potato, kumara, watercress, dumplings and freshly baked Maori bread.

You’ll also find fresh salads, sandwiches and a large, selection of homemade baked goods like lolly logs, feijoa cupcakes, ginger crunch and pistachio and lemon slice.

Downstairs, in the bright and airy space, patrons can pull up a coffee sack-covered stool or relax on Grandma’s floral lounge; while upstairs the mezzanine has been fitted out with mismatched timber tables and chairs including the quintessential, communal table and cosy, cushioned booths - sitting amidst New Zealand artwork, carvings, sculptures and Kiwiana for sale.
