Chalet Bar

Spring Hill

AS OF 2019 THE CHALET BAR IS USED SOLELY FOR PRIVATE FUNCTIONS.

Chalet Bar might be a long way from the ski slopes but the cosy underground hideaway in Spring Hill is as close as it gets to an apres ski lodge bar without leaving Brisbane.

Tucked away in the cellar of the 150 year old Alliance Hotel, the entrance to the rustic candle lit bar is via a narrow doorway off Boundary St – look for the small white Chalet Bar sign.

Inside to the left is the inviting lounge with red brick walls, Chesterfield couches and arm chairs, a stone fireplace, gothic archways, monastery-like wooden doors and a scattering of Turkish rugs taxidermy, and ski paraphernalia.*

It doesn’t need to be cold outside to hole up in here with a drink or three. Chalet Bar is a great place to start or finish the evening with a civilized drink: a craft beer (with Kosciusko & White Rabbit Ale on tap), cider or ginger beer, wine, schnapps or a house cocktail like the Rum Treacle or Chalet Iced Tea. But that’s not all.

With bar food coming from the award-winning upstairs kitchen, patrons can also settle in for the evening with delicious casual eats like the Cheese & Wagyu Burger (served with metal basket of fries) , or one of the other burgers like chicken schnitzel or pulled pork with hot mustard slaw.

Or for something lighter there’s melt-in-the-mouth arancini, chilli beef empanadas or duck spring rolls.

*Owner Nick, who is also in charge of the rest of the Alliance Hotel, modelled this bar on a ski lodge bar his parents once owned in the Australian Alps.
