Dami Japanese Restaurant
Mt Gravatt
Next to a newsagency in a little row of shops, near the Mount Gravatt Hotel, Dami Restaurant is a southside secret worth sharing.
You've probably driven past it many times and never noticed it; the unassuming Japanese restaurant on Logan Road surrounded by car yards.
While cars whiz past on busy Logan Road outside, inside the setting is serene. The decor is simple with dark timber flooring, tables and chairs. Kokeshi dolls line a shelf on one side of the room while traditional tea sets highlight the striking timber wall on the other.
With food this good though, you don't need fancy furnishings. Dami sells ready-made, fresh sushi for take-away, including maki, nigiri, and sashimi. Or dine in and experience one of their fantastic fusion rolls like lion king, double prawn, or spicy beef. Other options include noodle dishes, bowl meals, and Chef's specials. Okonomiyaki is popular, a savoury pancake of seafood, bacon, and vegetables served with a special sauce.
Proving that good food doesn't need to cost a fortune, Dami dishes up delicious lunch specials for $10 and less, up til 3pm. They also serve a selection of appetizers such as gyoza, dim sim, and takoyaki (octopus balls). Complete your meal with a scoop of green tea ice cream, black sesame seed ice cream, or a piece of macadamia slice.
Need to know: Dami is BYO and a bottle shop is conveniently located next door. On street parking is scarce but there is plenty of parking behind the pub.
