The Merry Wives of Windsor

Queensland Conservatorium Theatre

The Brisbane-based Lisa Gasteen National Opera School is staging its much-anticipated performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor on November 29 at the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre.

Only the second concert staged production ever performed by the prestigious opera school, The Merry Wives of Windsor is a breezy, rather shallow comedy based on Shakespeare’s play of the same name.

Merry Wives of Windsor

Composed in 1849 by Otto Nicolai as Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, this traditional German singspiel (meaning it contains spoken dialogue as well as musical numbers) focuses heavily on the romance between Fenton and Anne.

Merry Wives of Windsor

Starring some of the best young professional singers from Australia and New Zealand, this classic opera will be conducted by American Ward Stare and directed by British-Australian Heather Fairbairn. Joining them will be highly sought-after coaches including Richard Hetherington from the Royal Opera House, German-based repetiteur Philip Mayers, and the Sydney Conservatorium’s Stephen Mould.

Need to know – People aged under 30 can secure 2-for-1 tickets for the special price of only $15pp. When booking select a B reserve ticket and put in the Promo Code: MERRY to access $15 tickets for under 30s.
