Greenmount Point

Gold Coast

Updated: May 11, 2020

Greenmount Point - a headland named by its Irish founders - offers great photo opportunities and hosts the Rainbow Bay Lookout and Pat Fagan Park.

The lookout provides spectacular panoramic views over Coolangatta Beach to the north and Rainbow Bay to the south, while Pat Fagan Park is a popular venue for picnics and wedding ceremonies where you're guaranteed to spot a bearded dragon, a bush turkey or a blushing bride. Pat Fagan Park also offers a drive-up car park, accessible toilets, shaded tables and barbeques.

A scenic stroll around the headland will take you past a multitude of spots, perfect for people watching, picnicking, yoga or quiet contemplation. Heading north along the leafy Oceanway boardwalk, you’ll come to Greenmount Beach, tucked into the southern end of Coolangatta Beach and home of Greenmount Beach Surf Club - Queensland’s first surf club established in 1911, Club of the Year 2019 and home to the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Life Saving Club.

Sheltered from the southerly winds and patrolled year-round, north-facing Greenmount Beach is a favourite spot for families and swimmers. Greenmount is also a beginner surfers delight, known for its easy sand-bottomed break and clean reliable barrel waves, making it popular with learners and long-boarders. With its perfect slower-paced beginner waves, laid-back Greenmount is the perfect place for surf lessons for the family. Just look for Coolangatta Learn to Surf at the back of the beach on Marine Parade.
