Tamborine Mountain

Updated: Aug 26, 2020

A trip to scenic Tamborine Mountain isn’t complete without visiting historic St Bernards Hotel, a favourite since it opened its doors as licensed premises back in 1915.

Perched on the escarpment with magnificent views that stretch all the way to the Gold Coast and across to Stradbroke Island, this iconic country pub is steeped in old-world charm and character and, as you’d expect, is home to friendly and much-adored St Bernard dogs. Always ready for a belly rub, Molly (aged 9 years) and Syrah (aged 3 years) are a familiar part of the furniture, but guests will be delighted to meet the newest member of the canine team, 6-month-old puppy Cooper, who is in training to take over the reins from Molly.

Popular with locals and visitors alike, St Bernards is well-known for its genuine country hospitality and an impressive and country-style seasonal menu that includes mouth-watering steaks and signature dishes.

When the weather is fine, the Terrace is the perfect spots to relax and drink in the atmosphere. In the cooler weather, you can’t beat staying cosy inside, with the option of sitting in front of the stately fireplace in Rafters Room, or near the combustion stove in the lounge area.

Make sure you take time to stroll through the hotel’s delightful cottage garden, with several terraces carved into the hillside overflowing with colourful blooms and blossoms.

Explore further and you’ll discover the once Olympic-sized pool – naturally fed by the Guanaba Creek – that was originally built in the 1930s, and where a famous Australian swimmer would come to train in preparation for competing at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. Now home to ducks and some feisty geese, the creek flows into a waterfall that cascades down into the Guanaba Valley.

Several function spaces, catering for any size wedding reception up to 200 guests, can be transformed into a magical and unforgettable night to remember. The hotel is also an ideal corporate event or intimate private event venue, with packages available to meet all your needs.

If you’d like to turn your daytrip into a stay-trip, the nearby Edges Lodge offers the ultimate in luxury accommodation, and is perfect for couples, families and small groups to enjoy while discovering all that Tamborine Mountain has to offer.
