Phatboyz Smokehouse & Kitchen

Walloon

Updated: Jun 19, 2024

Phat Boyz Smokehouse & Kitchen is a mammoth purpose-built smokehouse BBQ restaurant in the country township of Walloon, on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Some of Australia’s most revered smokehouse 'pitmasters' are behind Phatboyz, having started as a competitive BBQ team and online shop operating out of a backyard shed in 2017, before upgrading to the Bundamba warehouse precinct where it has operated for the past three years.

The restaurant features three enormous smokers including the five-metre, two-tonne ‘Moonshine Express’, a 2.5-metre South American Bird Cage, and ‘The Sweet Smoke Express’ dessert smoker.

As well as American BBQ favourites, the menu also  a broad range of flavours from Texas and Carolina, as well South American and Japanese influences.

Diners can pop in anytime of day for some delicious smoked fare, starting with a hearty smoked breakfast, as well as a range of mouth-watering burgers and even a smoked brisket ramen soup.

One burger, not for the faint-hearted and aptly named the Phat Boyz Burger Challenge – weighs in at 3.5 kilograms. The creation includes one kilo of handmade wagyu mince, one kilo of pulled pork, bacon, egg, double cheese and salads, on a specially baked 32cm, 600gm bun

While Phatboyz are best known for their heavenly brisket and pulled pork, burgers and loaded fries, one of their house specialties is smoked desserts, with one smoker wholly dedicated to the sweet stuff.

At the helm of the dessert smoker is multi-award winning ‘Pit Master’, Daniel Barrington, who will be producing five variations of smoked cheesecake, Ferrero Rocher tacos, and popcorn burgers.
