Stratton Bar & Kitchen

Newstead

Updated: Apr 04, 2024

Stratton Bar & Kitchen in Newstead is a one-of-a-kind venue, a happening spot by day-and night inside two historic war igloos.

Tarryn and Ben Brown of Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen have spearheaded the Brisbane supper-club scene with The Stratton, built out of vintage WWII hangers right in the heart of Newstead.

Enter through the leafy garden atrium, and enjoy the best of Brisbane’s blue skies with a long lunch and spritz. As the sun sets, step into the sexy, moody dining hall that features date-friendly booths and a dramatic eight-foot communal table. There’s a glamorous double bar, floating DJ platform, and an impressive function space for your bigger parties.

The menu is fun, loud, and modern. Expect Australian flavours fused with unexpected influences from their seasonally-influenced menu. Mouthwatering dishes include spicy Korean fried chicken, a crispy half duck coated in a sweet honey and orange glaze, and the #1 seller: the addictive sweet and sour broccoli.

The bar shakes up delicious drinks celebrating Aussie distilleries, with uber-cool cocktails dreamed up by their expert bar crew. A must try is the Smoked Margarita, or the NY State of Mind, complete with a shiraz foam topping.

And the best part is that there’s always something happening here, with weekly ‘Pizza and Pours’ nights, and ‘Sundays with your AIX’, a rosè-themed set lunch. (Bringing your ex is optional.)

But the real star is Stratton’s supper club series, Under the Arches. These nights are held in collaboration with Australia’s leading artisans like Four Pillars Gin and Woodford Reserve. Locals and newcomers are invited for an evening of flowing drinks, chats, and feeds. Be warned, these events sell out fast.

Stratton is breathing new life into what it means to dine out in Brisbane, with a cast of expert, friendly staff and a globally-influenced offering that would be right at home in New York, London, or Hong Kong.
