Allonda
Newstead
Allonda is a striking scandi-chic restaurant from the owners of Paddington hotspot NOTA, found tucked away in a Newstead laneway.
With designer minimalist aesthetic, the split-level restaurant is a sleek vision of stone, pale wood and concrete, with a mezzanine private dining room with bar and open kitchen as well as a covered terrace outside.
Diners can take a seat outside, in the downstairs dining room where there is a leather banquette along one wall or at the bar and enjoy a selection of dishes from the raw bar as well as burrata, pasta and a handful of exquisite mains.
Delectable small plates include tempura market fish sandwich with house tartare; potato terrine, cultured cream & caviar; fried black pudding with brown butter mayo; freshly shucked oysters and kingfish collar with nori mayo.
The Allonda seafood plate is a good way to sample the raw small plate offerings, with a selection of three dishes to share, while highly recommended is the Casa Motta burrata, served with either olive tapenade and sourdough or seasonal fruit and rocket salad.
Pasta dishes include Casarecce, beef ragu & parmigiano reggiano; Sweet corn ravioli, tomato butter & chilli 32 puffed corn or signature Allonda risotto, while mains (also to share) include WA scampi with roasted tomato butter; short ribs, charred greens & harissa and Margra lamb rump, smoked yoghurt & salsa verde.
And for dessert there's a choice of honey parfait, blueberry, walnut and yogurt crémeaux; Eton Mess with straberry chantilly or a selection of artisan cheese and condiments.
The impressive curated wine list offers a selection of old-and-new world wines, bespoke house cocktails such as burnt orange and bourbon sour and chilli and basil spritz, Italian apperitifs, vermouth and Amaro, boutique spirits and craft beers.
Need to know - there is a limited amount of metered street parking on Longland Street.
