Enjoy non-stop fun all summer long at Museum of Brisbane, with an exciting line-up of FREE and affordable activities including hands-on workshops, interactive exhibits, and summer adventures that will spark curiosity, creativity, and learning from December 14- January 27.

With before-hours visits, crafty plant workshops and hands-on adventures, Museum of Brisbane is a one-stop shop for entertaining the kids these school holidays. 

Camera Obscura at MoB

Camera Obscura Workshop  Select Wednesdays in December & January 2:00pm–3:00pm, $20  Ages 13+

In this hands-on adventure, budding photographers will dive into the basics of optics and transform a simple cardboard box into their own camera obscura! By the end of the workshop, visitors will take home a unique, functional camera obscura – plus the skills to impress friends with their new understanding of light and images.

Macaranga Mate at MoB

Macaranga Mates  Daily from 14 December - 27 January. 10:00am–1:00pm, Free, Suitable for all ages

Inspired by Artist in Residence Dylan Bolger’s stunning imagery of the macaranga leaf, families can dive into a creative adventure by making their very own hanging Macaranga Mate to take home. Learn about the healing property of native plants in this fun and free activity exploring nature, creativity, and design while making something beautiful to take home.

Family Flyers at MoB

Family Flyers  Daily from 14 December - Sunday 26 January10:30am–1:30pm Cost: $5 Suitable for all ages

Get ready for an exciting family adventure in the sky! Inspired by Christine Ko and Louis Lim’s Artist in Residence Departure, create your very own Family Flyer kite decorated with favourite family photos to tell your one-of-a-kind story. It’s a fun, hands-on experience that will have your family’s memories soaring high above. 

Teen Zine Workshop at MoB

Teen Zines Workshop 23 January, 2pm-4pm, Cost $30 Ages 13yrs+

Join Museum of Brisbane these school holidays for an exciting and creative workshop where you can learn the art of zine-making. Start with an inspiring tour of the New Light: Photography Now + Then exhibit, guided by artist Izzy Heaton to discover the stories behind the art and gain insight into the world of zine-making. Dive into a hands-on session and design your own unique photo collage zine.  This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for teens to nail the basics of zine making, learn new artistic skills, and create a one-of-a-kind zine to take home.

Your Explorers Tour MoB

New Light Young Explorers Tour Monday & Fridays in December & January. 9.15-10.15am Cost $15. Ages 6-12yrs

Ever wanted to have a Museum all to yourself? Gather up your favourite little art lovers these holidays for an exciting and very exclusive adventure as Museum of Brisbane open their doors early for the Young Explorers Tours.

In this fully immersive excursion, your little art fan will go on a special tour of the exhibition New Light: Photography Now + Then and use exploratory games and activities to learn more about contemporary image making.

They’ll be able to get hands on with some real life artworks with our special interactive touch trolley before trying their hand at making a creation to take home and keep.

Parents and carers can choose to tag along or sit back and relax in the Dome Gallery while they wait.

Museum of Brisbane is a one-stop shop for entertaining kids of all ages these school holidays. Head into Level 3 of Brisbane City Hall to MoB where you can set your creative talents free.
