RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre

Amberley

Updated: Jul 15, 2025

The RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre offers a fascinating display of aircraft and insight into SEQ’s military aviation history and opens to the general public on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

The Heritage Centre, which is housed in 4 hangars, is a showcase of the history of aviation of the RAAF in SEQ during both times of war and peace as well as the role played by the RAAF in providing air power to Australia.

Here, visitors can get up close and personal to the aircrafts on display, which include the very first F1-11 to be accepted and flown by an RAAF crew, the Sioux and the Iroquois helicopter (both of which served in Vietnam), the Korean war era Sabre, the Mirage (which served the RAAF from the late 60s to the 80s) and the Caribou, which has flown many emergency relief missions in the Asia and South Pacific.

Also on display is the Canberra, which took part in a jet bombing mission in the Malayan Emergency of 1958, the United States Army Air Force’s Boston Bomber, which was restored from 7 air wreckages in the jungles of New Guinea, and the 1971-delivered Pilatus Porter which has overseen service in both Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.

As well as the aircrafts, the Heritage Centre is home to many special collections, including World War II vehicles, medals, weapons and restored engines.

Need to know - *While entry is free, a gold coin donation is gratefully received. All visitors must pass through an ID process, with details recorded and at times this can create delays at the entrance. All visitors aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Nice to know – An onsite souvenir and gift shop sells everything from T-shirts, hats and mugs to DVDs and books, with all proceeds going back into the Heritage Centre.
