The Gypsy Cottage
Rosewood
UPDATED: The Gypsy Cottage has permanently closed.
The Gypsy Cottage is a picture perfect country cottage that is like a little slice of heaven perched atop a hill along the old Cobb and Co coach route west of Ipswich.
Surrounded by rolling hills and countryside and with panoramic views as far as the Border Ranges, the little grey cottage with white lace trim makes the perfect retreat for a weekend or longer.
Once seated on the porch with a glass of wine in hand watching the sunset and wallabies grazing until the stars come out, the city feels like a million miles away.
The cottage itself is exquisitely decorated - country style without an ounce of twee. Floors are polished hoop pine, the bedroom features a white poster bed and the bathroom a claw bath with views while the lounge has a wood stove and comfy suede couch that is also a sofa bed to accommodate up to 2 extra guests.
The kitchen comes well-stocked with breakfast items including fresh laid eggs from the farm (which The Gypsy Cottage is part of - delightful owner Nicole is 5th generation), real country bacon from a local butcher, fresh bread, condiments and a fresh fruit platter.
Also greeting guests on arrival is a bottle of wine and cheese. For extra provisions the quaint township of Rosewood is about an 8 min drive away.
While The Gypsy Cottage is the kind of place to happily switch off and relax with some good books and view gazing, one of the recommendations to do nearby for something special is a lunch or dinner at Homage restaurant at Spicers Hidden Vale. Also nearby is the historic township of Marburg, with its antique store and historic Woodlands (another great lunch destination).
Need to know - The Gypsy Cottage is approx one hour from Brisbane and 20 mins from Ipswich. The accommodation is pet-friendly, with plenty of open space for your dog to roam.
Nice to know – The very first guest here was a French artist who spent a week painting, exploring and relaxing and was that taken with the cottage that he described it as his favourite place to stay in 40 years of world travel.
