Angelo's Fresh Pasta
Fortitude Valley
Angelo's pasta shop, the first of its kind in Brisbane and still going strong, is located in a landmark old red factory in a Valley cul-de-sac and it is from here that pasta king Angelo, his wife and 3 of his 5 children have for 20 years been peddling the pasta that has become a household name in Queensland.
It all started back in the 1960's when, after a trip home to Italy, Angelo and his wife Val bought a simple pasta machine and on their return to Brisbane, began making pasta under their house. Italian families would pop by after church and collect fresh pasta that they could not find elsewhere and so Angelo's pasta was born in 1968.
In 1974 they bought a premise opposite the old Coca Cola site in Wandoo St and expanded to this ex-Mercedes Benz workshop in 1991. And it is from here that shoppers can pick up the entire range of Angelo's pasta and products – fresh or frozen spaghetti, ravioli, raviolini, cannelloni, agnolotti, fettuccine, gnocchi and lasagne (made from fresh potatoes & egg that is processed in the on-site factory)and pastas sauces as a range of Italian cheeses, imported in 33kg wheels and which Angelo still insists on hand slicing the old fashioned way himself. And that isn't the only thing he oversees – at the ripe old age of 80 he still plays a hand in the daily pasta and sauce making as he has for the past 45 years.
To complete the picture, stone pizza bases, gelati, cheese cutters, Italian soft drinks, oils, frozen pizzas and bases are also available along with Illy coffee and beans from the Coffee Guy.
