High Tea at Parliament House

Parliament House

Updated: Sep 16, 2024

Here's something all Brisbane dwellers should experience once in a lifetime - a high tea in the elegant grandeur of the Strangers' Dining Room at Parliament House, where 125 years of Queensland's leaders, dignitaries and their distinguished guests have gathered.

Designed to be a social yet safe dining experience, the high tea feature individual platters of handmade high tea favourites, including warm pumpkin scones served with preserves and clotted cream, smoked chicken and Mt Tamborine truffle brie pinwheels, and a delicious selection of sweet treats such as chocolate dipped strawberries,  custard tarts, cream sponge and rich opera cake.

Once a month, the heavy panelled oak doors of the one time Members Dining Room are thrown open to the public by black-tied waiters and those-in-the-know descend to take their place at tables covered in white starched linen and set with the government's best silver.

To follow is an hour and a half to sit and absorb the refined atmosphere – the soaring ceilings, magnificent Tasmanian oak parquetry and ornate pillars - while partaking in the range of contemporary delicacies on offer, served along with fresh orange juice, expertly brewed coffee and a unique selection of tea.

When all is sipped and done, there's the option (highly recommended) of a complimentary tour of Parliament House, led by  knowledgeable guides and the highlight of which is a visit to the 1860s O'Donovan Library where Queensland's first and oldest book collection is stored on the original ceiling to floor shelves.

Nice to know - On-site car parking is available. Guests will be allocated a bay in the Parliament House car park for the duration of the event. Please contact Parliament House to request a car park.

Need to know - Seating is limited, so book now to secure your tickets.
